Story by Chris Graham

Golf can teach life lessons – and the younger you start, the more you can learn.
Students in grades K-8 in Charlottesville city schools will be able to find that out for themselves.
The city school system is participating in The First Tee National School Program. The Charlottesville-based SNL Financial is sponsoring the effort with help from a grant from the World Golf Foundation.

“SNL Financial is proud to fund the training and purchase of equipment to introduce the National School Program to all children in the Charlottesville city elementary and middle schools,” said Jan Corrin, chairman of the Employee Activities and Community Awareness Committee for SNL.

“SNL believes in making positive contributions to the community’s nonprofit organizations,” Corrin said.

The First Tee of Charlottesville will be based at Meadowcreek Golf Course. The First Tee program will organize the training of all city physical-education teachers to be part of the mission.

“The First Tee National School Program is an innovative way to address the whole child by incorporating character education and physical fitness in a community setting,” Charlottesville schools superintendent Rosa Atkins said.

“We appreciate SNL’s generous support that is making this possible,” Atkins said.
