oduOld Dominion University Director of Athletics Dr. Wood Selig has announced the promotion of Ted Alexander to Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations.

“Ted Alexander has been a valued member of ODU athletics for over nine years in a variety of broadcasting, media relations, sales, and marketing related roles. His background in TV, radio, and print media combined with his dynamic interpersonal and mentoring skills make him a perfect choice for our Senior Associate AD for external operations,” Selig said. “As new media, including increased strategic use of social media, continue to be developed along with the growth of traditional media, Ted is perfectly positioned to lead the way for content production and distribution for the benefit of our alumni, fans, community, coaches, and student-athletes.”

Alexander will continue to serve as the “Voice of the Monarchs” for football and men’s basketball, and oversee all aspects of the production, distribution, creative and video services and licensing. He will supervise the athletic communications staff as well as the creative and video services department and work closely with ODU Sports Properties. He will be the liaison between the athletic department and local and national media, and act as the athletic spokesperson.

Alexander has been ODU’s Director of Broadcasting the last five years, and has been the “Voice of the Monarchs” men’s basketball team for nine seasons and the football voice for seven years.

“I’m truly excited for this next chapter and I want to thank President Broderick and Wood Selig for providing this opportunity to me,” Alexander said.  “No one person can replace Debbie White, but I’m confident the team we have in place will be able to help move ODU Athletics forward.”

Prior to that, Alexander spent 15 years in television as sports director, anchor and reporter and 15 more years on the radio air waves as a host and program director.
