The Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom will hold a summer series of free professional development workshops for teachers of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Each will feature agriculture-related classroom activities that meet current educational standards.
Participants will receive resource kits that include curriculum materials covering science, mathematics, language arts, social studies and health.
“Each summer teachers attend our summer professional development sessions to seek out new lessons and activities and sprout new ideas for their classrooms in the fall,” said Tammy Maxey, AITC senior education program coordinator. “We are premiering our new curriculum titled ‘Sprouting Success’ this summer with an emphasis on our new online map. Educators should sign up online to reserve a spot as sessions fill up quickly.”
The workshops will be held July 21 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond; July 23 at Henricus Historical Park in Chesterfield County; July 28 at the Science Museum of Western Virginia in Roanoke; July 29 at Morven Park in Leesburg; July 30 at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum in Winchester; Aug. 4 at Virginia State University in Petersburg and Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria; Aug. 12 at St. Aiden’s Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach; and Aug. 13 at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
