Staunton City Council candidate Carl Tate has taken the Americans for Tax Reform “Taxpayer Protection Pledge.” In the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, candidates and incumbents solemnly bind themselves to oppose any and all tax increases.

“During this economic downturn, while families are being asked to cut their family budgets, it is not the time for our leaders in city government to raise our taxes,” Tate said.

Tate has challenged his opponents – current Council incumbents Bruce Elder, Lacy King and Carolyn Dull – to take the pledge.

Tate makes this move as as the city proposes an increase in its personal property tax.
