Summer Studio at Staunton Augusta Art Center

AFP

saaclogoThe last Summer Studio session starts in less than a week, so register soon.  This Staunton Augusta Art Center art day camp meets 10am-noon, August 5-9, in the R.R. Smith for History and Art conveniently located across from the public parking garage on South New Street in historic Downtown Staunton.  In a fun, relaxed environment, campers develop art skills and apply art theory in an art history concept.

There are a few places still open for the “Still Life” class for 4-5 year olds.

We have started a wait list for the two sold-out classes, “Representational Art” for ages 6-8 and “Abstract & Conceptual Art” for ages 9-12.

Here are the detailed class descriptions:

Real to Wacky, August 5-9 Still Life (ages 4-5): Turn your favorite objects into artworks worthy of framing.  Focus on capturing shapes and colors.  Draw and paint what you literally see and then convey an object in a more abstract way.   It will be a crazy week!  Taught by Augusta County art teacher (and former bicycle racer!) Trina Graham

Representational Art (ages 6-8): From seemingly real portraits that mysteriously communicate something to the viewer (think Mona Lisa) to creative symbols/signs that convey a specific meaning (think universal restroom sign), explore the amazement of this art form.  This is definitely your time to create!   Taught by private school educator/artist Karen Hurt.

Abstracted and Conceptual Art (9-12): From quirky Gorky to sling-the-paint Pollock, learn the methods behind abstract and conceptual art.  Choose the artist you would like to emanate and create your own homage.  Taught by educator/studio artist Lynn Lough.

The registration fee for the week is $85/$75 for members.  Register by calling 540-885-2028.
