Stuarts Draft High School to present Cinderella

AFP

theater-masks2It may be a fairytale we all know, but the newest version of  Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella has a few surprises up its magical sleeves.

This well-loved musical will be performed by the combined Drama and Choral Departments of Stuarts Draft High School March 10 through March 13.

Don’t miss your chance to see this new version of the magical, fairy-tale musical we all know.  Cinderella is a family-friendly show filled with magic, romance, sword fighting, gorgeous dancing, and some delightful surprises. Featuring beloved songs like “Ten Minutes Ago,” “In My Own Little Corner” and “The Prince is Giving a Ball.”

With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella combines the story’s classic elements – glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball gown – along with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right size shoe, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.

She longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home and instead wants to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams, too.   Likewise, Prince Topher is more than an empty-headed charming young man, but has dreams, hurts, and obstacles of his own to overcome.

Starring Julia Bussey as Ella  (Cinderella) and Bryce Morgan as Prince Topher, the cast also stars Jazmin Howard as Marie, the Fairy Godmother who sets the magic in motion, Sydney Walker as Madame, the Wicked Stepmother, Caitlin Catterton and Abby Ludwig as the hilarious stepsisters Gabrielle and Charlotte, Clay Renner as Sebastian, Jeremiah Moyer as Lord Pinkleton, and Ben Josefson as Jean-Michel, a revolutionary out to save the kingdom. Other cast members include Reagan Mihailoff as the Fox/Coachman, Morgan Bradley as the Raccoon/Footman, and Alex Randolph as the Giant.

Devon Howell, Kereil Kindle, Andrew Barnikow, Karl Hutchinson, Gabby Patarinski, Jaimisen Raiford, Caitlyn Bennett, Karson Bruce, and many more round out this talented ensemble.  Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is directed by Amy Neal Bussey with Musical Direction and Choreography by Bethany Blouse.

All performances take place in the Stuarts Draft High School Auditorium. Ticket prices are $12 for Reserved Seats, $10 for adults, and $6 for students. Show times are Thursday March 10 – Saturday March 12 at 7pm and Sunday March 13 at 3pm. Call SDHS at 540-946-7600 for more information or to reserve tickets.
