Not storyline: Daniel Bryan faces neck surgery, uncertain return

No, it wasn’t an angle. Daniel Bryan is set to undergo neck surgery on Thursday, and his status is uncertain, though the talk coming out of the WWE locker room is that it’s possible that Bryan could be back in time to play some role at Payback.

More likely, though, is that Bryan, the WWE champ, will not be a part of the show, which is why the storyline built around his upcoming surgery on tonight’s Monday Night Raw had him being laid out by Kane and carted from the arena in the back of an ambulance.

Bryan had already addressed the reports circulating on the Internet earlier in the day during the live Raw broadcast, confirming the scheduled surgery and suggesting in his promo that it could have career-changing, if not career-ending, repercussions.

That may be stretching it. WWE insiders are saying that the surgery is relatively minor in nature, but as with anything involving surgeons and scalpels and the like, there is a degree of uncomfortable uncertainty for Bryan and WWE creative this week.
