Storen throws scoreless rehab inning in P-Nats rout

Drew Storen threw a scoreless inning on rehab assignment as the Potomac Nationals came from behind to rout the Frederick Keys 14-3.  Potomac scored the final 13 runs of the game to end their four-game losing streak.

Storen, currently on the 60-Day DL due to a bone chip in his right elbow that was removed, is the tenth rehabber to play for Potomac this season.  He needed just eight pitches to throw his scoreless inning getting a pop out, fly out, and groundout.

Chad Tracy appeared in his second game for the Nationals and was held hitless in two at bats.  He was robbed of a home run by right fielder Steve Bumbry in his first at bat and flied out to left field in his second at bat.  He was removed after playing five innings defensively at third base.

Potomac struck first for the second straight night with an unearned run in the third inning.  J.P. Ramirez reached on an error to start the frame and scored on a two-out double by Francisco Soriano for a 1-0 lead.

Frederick battled back to take the lead in the following half inning.  Trent Mummey knocked a one out triple and after Ty Kelly walked, Aaron Baker delivered a two-run triple to put the Keys on top 2-1.

Michael Mosby tacked on another run in the fifth inning with an RBI double that plated Travis Adair to make it 3-1.

After leaving some runners on base in the early innings, Potomac finally got the big hit they needed in the sixth inning.  Blake Kelso and Ricky Hague led off the inning with back-to-back singles and David Freitas gave the P-Nats the lead back at 4-3 with a three-run home run, his fourth of the season.

Adam Olbrychowski (4-6) was the first out of the bullpen for Potomac behind Storen and threw five innings of relief for the victory.  Tyler Wilson (4-4) had not allowed an earned run against Potomac in his first two starts but was hung with the loss tonight.  Wilson gave up four runs, two of them earned in five plus innings.

The Nationals extended the lead to 9-3 in the seventh inning with five two-out runs.  Ricky Hague and Stephen King connected with RBI singles and Kevin Keyes delivered the big hit of the inning hitting a two-run triple to deep center field.

Potomac blew it completely open in the eighth inning with their second consecutive five-run inning.  Soriano, Kelso and Hague knocked RBI base hits in front of David Freitas’ second home run of the night, a two-run shot.  Frederick brought on Adair from shortstop to record the final two outs of the inning.
