Stonewall Jackson House to commemorate Jackson’s 192nd birthday

stonewall jackson houseThe Stonewall Jackson House will celebrate the 192nd anniversary of the birth of Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson on Thursday, Jan. 21.  Free tours of the house will be offered every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the last tour beginning at 3:30 p.m.  Birthday cake and hot spiced cider will be served next door at the Davidson-Tucker House at 10 E. Washington St.

The Stonewall Jackson House, located at 8 E. Washington St., is owned and operated by the Virginia Military Institute, where Jackson taught for a decade before the Civil War.  Interpretation of the site focuses on Jackson’s life as a private citizen, professor, church leader, businessman, husband, and community leader during the decade he lived in Lexington.
