The City of Staunton honored the month of June as Pride Month with a Proclamation highlighting the LGBTQ+ community and the work of the Shenandoah LGBTQ Center at its May 22 regular meeting.
Shenandoah LGBTQ Center Board Secretary Dr. Paige Reed accepted the proclamation.
“This proclamation is more than just a gesture — it is a powerful acknowledgment that LGBTQ+ people are an essential, vibrant part of Staunton’s past, present and future. It signals to our youth, our elders, our families and our neighbors that who they are matters — and that they are seen, valued and protected here,” Reed said.
Friendly City Safe Space and the Center have scheduled a calendar of events in celebration of Pride Month, which is a glimpse of what Pride truly means to the community. Both organizations honor the legacy of the individuals who fought and paved the way for the freedom to love ourselves and each other loudly.0
