The Staunton Branch of the NAACP proudly announces its annual Freedom Fund Banquet scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Hotel 24 in Staunton.

Themed “Working Together Defines Our Future,” the 2024 event will honor the achievements and contributions of individuals committed to advancing civil rights and social justice in the Staunton area. The Staunton Branch is excited to present six prestigious awards of honor to members of the Staunton community who have gone above and beyond to support the community.

“The Freedom Fund Banquet is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress we’ve made, recognize those who have paved the way, and inspire future generations to continue the work of the NAACP,” NAACP Staunton Branch President Kenneth Venable said.

The Freedom Fund Banquet is a cornerstone event for the NAACP, and serves as a significant fundraiser to support the organization’s legal defense fund and ongoing efforts to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights for all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker will be President Of the NAACP Virginia State Conference Rev. Cozy Bailey. Special honors will be bestowed upon Pamela Fox, Terrell Mickens, Saundra Crawford, Kwadwo Donkor, Brandon Carter and William “Billy” Vaughn.

Bailey served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and received the Navy Commendation Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and the Legion of Merit before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
