The Staunton Office of Economic Development in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s Enterprise Zone Program Office will host two enterprise zone workshops – one at 3 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m. – on Tuesday in City Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall.

Both workshops will review the local and state enterprise zone grants that may be available to business and property owners in the Staunton Enterprise Zone. Staff from both the local and state enterprise zone offices will explain application procedures and be available to answer questions. The Staunton enterprise zone office encourages anyone who has recently opened a business or plans to open or expand a business in Staunton to attend one of the workshops. Property owners who are considering construction, renovation, or expansion of business property should also attend.

“We requested the workshop specifically for Staunton businesses because we have just received a new enterprise zone designation for 2010-2020, and we want the program to be as accessible as possible to Staunton companies,” said assistant director of economic development and enterprise zone administrator Amanda Glover.

“In tightening economic times we have to be creative in how we help business remain successful and the Staunton enterprise zone is a tool that leverages city and state funds to encourage job creation and capital investment,” Glover said.

Even if you have not previously registered for one, the workshops attendance is still encouraged. Questions should be directed to the Staunton Office of Economic Development at 540.332.3869.
