Staunton District Traffic Alert: Dec. 14-18

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Exit 27, eastbound – Watch for possible congestion due to traffic detouring onto Route 220.  Sunday, December 13, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

No lane closures reported.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) – Lane closures between Route 1212 (Karnes Road) and Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) for soil testing. Shoulder restrictions on Route 1308 (Garland Road).  Rich Patch Road will be closed north of the intersection with Selma-Low Moor Road. Flagger traffic control 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Estimated completion December 18.

Various roads – Patching and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Shoulder repairs, pipe replacement and ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Pipe replacement, shoulder repairs and ditching with flagger traffic control. Grading with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches and drop inlets. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Exit 50 to Exit 56 (I-81 Interchange), eastbound and westbound Closed Sunday, December 13 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. for pavement repairs. Local traffic can reach Lexington from I-64 eastbound by using exit 50, or from I-81 by using exit 188B or exit 195.  Signs and variable message boards will guide through traffic on detour route.

Mile marker 53 to 55, eastbound and westbound – Eastbound traffic will follow detour across the median to the westbound side of the interstate. Both directions of traffic will use westbound Maury River bridge while the eastbound bridge undergoes rehabilitation. Speed limit is 55 miles per hour.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, clearing signs areas, cleaning drain pipes, around box culverts, paved ditches, slopes and drop inlets. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Exit 188B and Exit 195 – Watch for possible congestion due to an I-64 traffic detour in the Lexington area. Sunday, December 13, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 60 (West 29th Street, Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement Alleghany Avenue to Beech Avenue.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 501 (Magnolia Avenue, City of Buena Vista) – Temporary shoulder closures as needed for sidewalk replacement from 24th Street to 25th Street. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 708 (Gilmore’s Mill Road) – Road closed at Cedar Creek bridge just east of Route 608 (Shafer Lane). Detour using Route 608 and Route 130 (Wert Faulkner Highway). Bridge scheduled for replacement with fall 2016 completion.

– Brush cutting, shoulder repairs, tree removal, pipe replacement, pothole repairs and pavement work with flagger traffic. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads –Tree trimming with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 678 (Bullpasture River Road) – Flagger traffic control for roadway embankment repairsapproximately five miles south of Route 250. December 14 to 18, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Various roads –Tree trimming with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Mile marker 87 to 100, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, brush mowing, cleaning paved ditches and inlets.  Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 90 to 92, eastbound and westbound – Possible shoulder or lane closures overnight as part of exit 91 improvement project, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.

Mile marker 94 to 107, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Feb. 17, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, brush mowing, replacing object markers, cleaning drainage systems. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Exit 217, northbound – Be alert for crews doing shoulder work on the on-ramp.  Monday to Friday,8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on-ramps Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Feb. 17, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) Shoulder closures and occasional lane closures during replacement of bridge over White Oak Draft. Work zone is about 0.5 mile west of Route 728.  Estimated project completion Jan. 29, 2016.

Route 250 (Hankey Mountain Highway) – Restricted to single lane with temporary traffic signals during replacement of bridge over Calfpasture River. Work zone is just east of Route 715 (Braley Pond Road).  Estimated project completion March 2016.

Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road-widening project between Route 636 and Route 635.

Route 340 (Rosser Avenue, Waynesboro), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures. Shoulder closures Mondaythrough Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system. Estimated completion Feb. 17, 2016.

Route 340 at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road, Stuarts Draft) –Shoulder closures for utility work at Route 1512 (Gloucester Road). Estimated completion December 31.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue), northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closures near I-64 on ramps Mondaythrough Saturday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for installation of traffic-management system.

Route 636 (Lifecore Drive) – Shoulder closures and occasional flagging operations for road widening west of Route 285.

Route 693 (Cedar Green Road)Intermittent lane closures for utility work between Route 254 (Parkersburg Turnpike) and Route 704 (William Cousins Road).  Estimated completion December 31.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Debris removal, brush cutting and chipping, and hand mowing around pipes and culverts. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

(NEW) Mile marker 249 – Single lane and shoulder closure for bridge inspection at Route 720 (Smithland Road – City of Harrisonburg) bridge over I-81. December 16, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 – Right shoulder closures and occasional lane closures for bridge replacement project over North River.December 14 to18, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Work zone is 0.013 miles north of Route 694 to 0.39 miles north of Route 694.

Route 33 (Spotswood Trail) between Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) to Route 687 (Massanetta Springs Road) – Single lane closure westbound for water line installation. Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion December 31.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Cecil Wampler Road) – Flagger controlled, intermittent right shoulder and northbound lane closures for installation of water lines. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. 5 p.m.  Work zone is between 0.3 miles south of Route 988 (Early Road) and Route 679 (Pleasant Valley Road).  Estimated completion December 31.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as needed.

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 264 to 300 – Removing debris and cleaning paved ditches. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Lane closures with flagger traffic control for soil testing at Cedar Creek bridge near Warren County line. December 7 to 18, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Work suspended until January 4 – Right lane closures for bridge repairs over Smith Creek. Monday – Thursday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Work zone located 0.1 mile west of Route 620.  Estimated completion January 22, 2016.

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder and ditch work.  Monday through Friday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Brush cutting, grading, pipe cleaning and pothole patching.  Monday through Friday.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324 – Debris removal and mowing.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

Mile marker 308 to 312, northbound and southbound – Reduced speed limit of 60 miles per hour in effect throughout the work zone until completion of the exit 310 construction project, estimated for May 2018.  Right and left shoulders closed 24/7.  Limited space for traffic to merge onto southbound I-81 due to shortened on-ramp. Motorists should also be alert for trucks entering and exiting work zone.

(NEW) Mile marker 323.8 – Shoulder closure for bridge inspection at Route 669 (Rest Church Road) bridge over I-81. December 14, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 37, northboundRight shoulder closure of Route 522 off-ramp during construction of additional turn lane. Lane shifts for paving December 16 and 17. Estimated completion December 30.

Route 37, southboundOn- and off-ramps at Winchester Medical Center closed for interchange reconstruction.  Southbound Route 37 drivers can use Route 50 to access the medical center. Estimated completion January 2016.

Route 37 at I-81 Exit 310 (Kernstown Interchange), northbound and southbound Be alert for construction vehicles and activities at exit 310 interchange and intersections of Tasker Road (Route 642) and Hillandale Drive (Route 847). Part of interchange reconstruction scheduled for completion in May 2018.

(NEW) Route 522, south – Brief lane closures as needed for replacement of overhead utility lines between Route 50 and Route 642 (Tasker Road).  Sunday, December 13 and Monday, December14, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers and Virginia State Police.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 642 (Tasker Road, Kernstown Interchange),  Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.44 miles south of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 interchange project.  Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Route 847 (Hillandale Lane, Kernstown Interchange) – Northbound 24/7 right shoulder closures from existing intersection with Route 37 to 0.31 miles north of intersection as part of I-81 exit 310 Interchange Project. Work performed Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated project completion May 2018.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Brush cutting, shoulder and ditch work.  Monday through Friday.

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 15 – Debris removal and ditch cleaning. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Pothole repairs as needed.

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Intersection modification at Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Temporary traffic signal at 55/340/522 intersection, and lane shift from 340/522 to Forest Hill Drive. Changes in effect through February 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

Route 340/522 (Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road) – South Fork bridge replacement and intersection modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road). Lane closures as needed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly. Lane shift and temporary traffic signal at 340/522/55 intersection from north end of bridge to Duck Street. Lane shift and closure of center turn lane from south end of bridge to just south of 17thStreet. Through traffic using 18th Street will detour onto North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.  Changes in effect through February 2016 for construction of new travel lanes. Estimated project completion December 2017.

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes. Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
