Update: Man in custody in Interstate 64 assault

Update: Wednesday, 12:29 p.m. A man is in custody in connection with the assault of a woman on Interstate 64 on Afton Mountain Tuesday evening.

Rodney D. Burnett, 46, was taken into custody after being located by Albemarle County Police on Batesville Road in Afton.

Virginia State Police have charged Burnett with malicious wounding. He is being held at Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail.

The victim, who has not been identified, is listed in critical condition at the UVA Medical Center.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

 

Original post: Tuesday, 8:31 p.m. Virginia State Police responded Tuesday to Interstate 64 at the 101 mile marker in Albemarle County for a report of an injured party.

interstate 64There they found a woman who had been maliciously assaulted. She has been transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. With the assistance of Albemarle County Police, a suspect vehicle has been located and a male subject detained.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
