State Police investigating fatal accident that claims life of 5-year-old in Augusta County

policeVirginia State Police Sr. Trooper D.C. Brydge is investigating a fatal crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred Thursday at 10:37 p.m., on Route 250, approximately 75 feet west of Route 636.

A 2013 Nissan Versa was traveling west on Route 250 when it ran off the left side of the road and struck guardrail. The vehicle came back into the roadway, crossed into the eastbound lanes of Route 250 and struck head-on a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt.

The driver of the Versa, Gregory J. Decker Sr., 55, of Auburn, N.Y., was transported to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Cobalt, Nolvia Y. Hernandez-Vasquez, 27, of Waynesboro, Va., was transported to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Her son, Yorcy Yoel Ipina-Hernandez, 5, was transported to Augusta Health Center, where he died. Yorcy was seated in the back seat and secured in a booster seat.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
