State Police investigating body found at Albemarle rest area

Virginia State Police are investigating the death of a male subject discovered Monday morning at a rest area in Albemarle County.

At 8:27 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to the eastbound Interstate 64 rest area at the 105 mile marker in Albemarle County. A citizen called in about an unresponsive male in a parked vehicle. Further investigation revealed the man was deceased. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination and autopsy.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death and are still in the process of notifying his next of kin. The incident remains under investigation at this time.

The rest area was re-opened at 3 p.m. Monday.
