policecar3Virginia State Police Trooper E.B. Hallman is investigating a three-vehicle crash that claimed two lives Wednesdaynight (Aug. 20) in Buckingham County. The crash occurred at 5:50 p.m. on Route 15, less than a mile south of Route 715.

A 1990 Volvo 740 was traveling south on Route 15, when it attempted to pass in a marked, no-passing zone the vehicle in front of it – a 2011 Dodge 3500 pickup truck that was hauling a trailer. As the Volvo changed into the northbound lane, it was traveling at a high rate of speed in an attempt to pass the pickup truck. The southbound Volvo struck a northbound 2014 Kia Soul head-on. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to spin out and strike the trailer.

The driver of the Volvo, Shedrick Q. Anderson, 28, of Bremo Bluff, Va., died at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, Carolyn L. Whittaker, 74, of Scottsville, Va., died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, Joshua G. Mast, 22, of Pamplin, Va., was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Route 15 was re-opened to through traffic Wednesday night by 8:30 p.m.
