State Police investigate fatal Augusta County crash

policeVirginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in the early morning hours Sunday. Sr. Trooper C.E. ZenZen was notified of the crash at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Augusta Farms Road east of Route 608 (Tinkling Springs Road) in Augusta County.

A male pedestrian was walking east in the travel lane of Augusta Farms Road when he was struck by an eastbound 2006 Nissan Murano. The vehicle was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian who died at the scene has been identified as Aaron J. Coffey, 28 of Waynesboro.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured and at this time no charges have been filed.

The crash remains under investigation.
