A two-vehicle crash in Stafford County last week killed a Woodbridge woman after she lost control of her vehicle on Interstate 95.

Bezawit B. Yigzaw, 30, suffered life-threatening injuries in the Nov. 28 accident and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital where she later died.

The crash occurred at 7:13 a.m. at the 139-mile marker, according to Virginia State Police.

Yigzaw’s Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on I-95 when it ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with a guardrail.

Several minutes later, a Volkswagen Jetta, which was also traveling southbound, lost control, ran off the right side of the roadway and collided with the Chevrolet which was still on the shoulder up against the guardrail.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Douglas P. Butler, 47, of Ruther Glen, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment. His condition at this time is unknown.

Weather is considered a factor in the crash.

Charges are pending as the crash remains under investigation.
