Springfield man dead in fatal paraglider crash in Fauquier County

A Springfield man is dead after attempting to fly his paraglider directly over a power plant smokestack where he lost control, according to Virginia State Police.

Robert N. Eaheart Jr., 77, the pilot of the paraglider, died at the scene of the crash.

The incident occurred Friday at 6:36 p.m. in the 12000 block of Lucky Hill Road in Fauquier County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the paraglider pilot attempted lost control and struck the ground.

Eaheart’s remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas for an autopsy and examination.

No one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash.

The FAA and NTSB were notified of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
