beverley street studio schoolBeverley Street Studio School Gallery hosts artist Tanja Softić’s exhibit of recent paintings titled Songs from Ends & Beginnings. The Exhibition will run from May 3rd to June 16.

The exhibit’s opening reception will be held on Friday, May 3rd from 5:30-7:30 pm at the School’s Gallery at 22 West Beverley Street, Downtown Staunton. Artist Tanja Softić will give a brief talk about her work at 6:00 pm. Both the evening reception and talk are free and open to the public.

In this exhibit, Sofić will display paintings exploring the questions of cultural belonging, hybridity and memory. She uses printmaking and drawing techniques, photography and poetic texts to metaphorically ex-press the elements of instability and brokenness, hope, beauty and poet-ry that are all present in our environment.

Sofić is a visual artist and art educator who holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Old Dominion University/Norfolk State University in Norfolk.
She is a Professor of Art Practice in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Richmond, VA, where she has been teaching for the past 10 years. Sofić has also exhibited extensively in the United States, and is in the permanent collections of the New York Public Library, the Library of Congress Print Department and the New South Wales Gallery of Art in Sydney, Australia.

Visit the Gallery during regular hours to view the exhibit: Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 10:00 am – 8:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

The BSSS Gallery shares space with the Co-Art Gallery, both of which are free resources to our community.
