Something to look forward to: National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend

girl scout cookieGirl Scouts of Virginia Skyline will join councils across the country this Feb. 26-28 to participate in National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend 2016, celebrating all of the fun and excitement Girl Scouts have had selling cookies for nearly a century. National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend will give girls a chance to show off their cookie-selling skills by participating in booth and door-to-door sales throughout the Virginia Skyline region.

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend gives Girl Scout troops an opportunity to highlight some of their most creative and successful cookie entrepreneurs and how their cookie earnings benefit the surrounding community. During Girl Scout Cookie season, each amazing young #cookieboss is not only selling delicious cookies; she’s also building essential life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—the “5 Skills” of the cookie program. And the more cookies girls sell, the more money they have to invest in local community service projects and learning experiences, like travel opportunities.

“The Girl Scout Cookie Program is about more than cookies,” commented Jean Ann Hughes, CEO of Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council. “It teaches girls basic business skills and instills a lifelong sense of civic responsibility that creates leaders. At Virginia Skyline we have so many amazing girls doing positive things with their cookie earnings. We can’t wait for National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend and to celebrate these girls and help them meet their cookie-selling goals for the year!”

One hundred percent of the net revenue raised through Girl Scout Cookie sales in the Virginia Skyline area stays with the local council and its troops, so customers who purchase Girl Scout Cookies are not only getting a delicious treat—they’re making an important investment in their local communities.

“National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend is one of the most exciting occasions on the Girl Scout calendar,” said Anna Maria Chávez, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA. “It’s our opportunity to speak with one unified voice and tell the story of the Girl Scout Cookie Program and everything it does to prepare the next generation of female leaders. Beyond just benefiting girls, the cookie program has a positive impact on the communities around them, as it makes girls aware of important issues and gives them the means and inspiration to take action. For nearly a century, selling cookies has been one of the most powerful and successful tools in transforming girls into leaders who make a positive impact on their communities.”

During this year’s Cookie Weekend, hungry cookie customers will be able to get their hands on classic cookies, like Thin Mints and Carmel deLites, as well as our newest varieties, Gluten-Free Trios, that made their debut last year. So join in the fun of National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend 2016! Visit www.girlscoutcookies.org or use the official Girl Scout Cookie Finder app, free for your iOS or Android phone or mobile device, to find Girl Scouts selling cookies near you.
