policecar3At 9:59 a.m. Wednesday, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash along the eastbound lanes of I-64 near the 96 mile marker in Augusta County.

A 1984 GEFCO Speedstar drilling rig was traveling eastbound on I-64 when it ran off the right side of the road and went through the guardrail. The rig continued down an embankment and into the woods where it landed on its side. The driver was flown to UVA Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
