The Senate failed on Thursday to override President Obama’s veto of S.J. 22, a resolution to block the federal Clean Water Rule.
The rule will clarify which streams and wetlands are covered by the Clean Water Act. Collin O’Mara, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, commented on the vote.
“Rather than debating whether we should protect our waters, we should be deciding how best to improve water quality for all Americans. This vote have would have placed the interests of a few industries above the public health, well-being, and natural resources of the nation.
“Recent events in Flint and Toledo make it clear that the federal government has a vital role to play in protecting the integrity of our waters and we look forward to working with both parties to make progress.”
