Seminary to hold commencement

Eastern Mennonite Seminary will hold its 59th annual commencement service 3 p.m. Saturday in Lehman Auditorium on the Eastern Mennonite University campus.

Marva Dawn, teaching fellow in spiritual theology, Regent College, Vancouver, BC, theologian, and educator for “Christians Equipped for Ministry,” will speak on “Spirit Equipped,” based on 1 Peter 4:7-14.

Seminary dean Ervin R. Stutzman will preside and confer degrees or certificates on the 30 members of the seminary class of 2008. The seminary will award 15 master of divinity degrees, two master of arts in religion degree and seven master of arts in church leadership degrees. Five persons will receive the one-year certificate in ministry studies and one person will receive a one-year certificate in theological studies.

A baccalaureate service planned by the senior class will be held 7:30 p.m. Friday, in Martin Chapel in the seminary building at EMU. Students John Stoltzfus, Penny Dreidiger, Marcia Rempel Weaver, Kevin Gasser, Sarah Schoenhals, Marvin Lorenzana and Dan Seifert will speak. A reception for seminary graduates, their relatives and friends will immediately follow the baccalaureate in the seminary fellowship area.

The baccalaureate and commencement services are open to the public.
