Search for Augusta County man who threatened to harm self

Update: Thursday, 8:02 p.m. Garland Arnell Morris Jr. 38 was located in the area of Verona, Va., at 7:20 p.m.

 

Deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office responded Thursday to the 100 block of Augusta Street in Verona for a report of a psychologically disturbed male who was armed with a shotgun and threatening to harm himself.

The male, Garland Arnell Morris Jr., 38, fled the area just prior to the arrival of seputies at 2:35 p.m. Morris fled the area in a Ford pickup truck, and deputies quickly located a pickup truck registered to Morris at a business in 100 block of Laurel Hill Road in Verona.

After a search, it was quickly determined that Morris was not at the business and that he was operating a similar Ford F-150 he owns.

Although there was no direct threat to area schools, due the incidents close proximity to public and private schools, the schools were notified of the incident, and dismissals were slightly delayed.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently actively searching for Morris. He is believed to be operating a Silver 1990 Ford F-150 pick-up truck bearing the Virginia Tag WTW-1073.
