Sandy: The worst may bypass Greater Augusta

AFP

The Greater Augusta County area is under a high-wind warning through 8 p.m. Tuesday as the remnants of Hurricane Sandy move inland in the Mid-Atlantic.

The latest weather forecast from EmergencyEmail.org seems to indicate that the region will not bear the brunt of the worst of the storm. Rainfall totals through Wednesday are projected in the 1.5- to 2-inch range all told. Some areas in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York could see upwards of a foot of rain, and parts of Virginia and West Virginia could see a foot to two feet of snow associated with the storm.

The worst of it here appears to be wind. Wind gusts as high as 55 mph are forecast for Monday night, with sustained winds of 30 mph and gusts to 45 mph on Tuesday.
