Ronald Mastin named interim Augusta County fire, rescue chief

augusta countyRonald Mastin has been named the interim fire and rescue chief for Augusta County.

Mastin is a 40-year fire and rescue veteran, having served in the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department from 1973 to 2001. Mastin also served as fire chief for Henrico County from 2001 to 2007, and returned to Fairfax County as fire chief in 2007.

In Fairfax County, Mastin managed a $160 million annual budget, 37 fire stations, and directed a staff of 1,900 representing uniformed, civilian, and operational volunteer personnel.

Mastin is the chairman of the Virginia Fire and Emergency Services Foundation, and he is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, where he served on the Emergency Management Assistance Compact Committee.

Mastin also served on the Virginia Governors Wireless E911 Services Board. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration and Management from the University of Maryland.

Mastin will begin his duties on Monday, August 20.
