Rock-n-Creek: A unique getaway

Contributors

A Virginia Beach native and Montebello transplant, and former White House executive chef, Richard Christy, has launched a multifaceted cabin and studio venue nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Combining 30 years of experience in the culinary and hospitality industry with his artistic background in preserving the art of carving traditional waterfowl decoys, Christy’s Rock-n-Creek Cabin offers visitors a unique getaway experience.

Hidden off the back roads in Montebello and nestled amongst the hardwoods and evergreens sits a cozy cabin available to visitors who desire a getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Exuding country comfort and with all the amenities of home, Christy’s 2,050-square-foot cabin is fully appointed with a charming rustic décor.

Of special note and available to guests are the exquisite culinary offerings of Christy, who for those interested will provide savory meals prepared daily or an ala carte menu for patron convenience and delight. Guests staying at the cabin will enjoy the Chef on the Fly Service featuring comfort foods as well as international cuisine. Choose from an assortment of creative cabin packages – dine alfresco at a beautiful Chef’s Table, select the Chicks Getaway or Duffer’s Dream, a golfer’s package. Friends will want to gather for the Cooking Class Getaway and bask in friendship while indulging in cool beverages and the experience of preparing a meal together under the tutelage of Chef Christy.

Also located on site at Rock-n-Creek Cabin is the decoy studio of Christy’s Buck Island Bay Decoys. Stop by and watch decoys made in the traditional way – as by the hand carvers of old in ways long since gone and replaced by modern equipment. Christy’s award-winning decoys, carved out of white cedar, have migrated the four corners of the earth resting with collectors from around the world. The Nature Conservancy of Virginia has commissioned Christy to carve waterfowl and shorebirds to present as tokens to benefactors.
