Richmond falls to George Mason, 83-73, in regular-season finale

Richmond went on a 22-8 run over the final three minutes, but it wasn’t enough to catch George Mason on Saturday night on the road, 83-73.

Junior T.J. Cline tallied his 11th 20-point outing of the season as he scored a team-high 23 points, including 19 in the second half.

Khwan Fore came off the bench and scored 17, just one shy of his career high. John Moran also came off the bench to score a career-high nine points on three threes in the final two minutes. One his attempts rolled all around the rim and out and would have made it a six-point game with 40 seconds left.

ShawnDre’ Jones tallied 11 points to go over 1,000 points for his career as a Spider.

George Mason was led by Otis Livingston II and his 21 points. Shevon Thompson had a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Marko Gujanicic scored 15.

Mason took an early lead in the first half, but Richmond rallied with big threes from Fore and a three from Jones in the final minute to tie the score at the half.

After the Spiders took a two-point lead off a jumper from Cline at the 17:27 mark, George Mason went on a run to pull ahead and lead 61-41 with seven minutes left.

Defensive stops and conversions from the Spider bench helped spark a furious rally, but Richmond ran out of time and fell 83-73.

The Spiders end the regular season as the nine seed in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, and will face Fordham on Thursday at noon in Brooklyn.
