Richards commits to Binghamton

Magnus Richards has made it official, confirming his commitment to Binghamton.

“I felt like it was a good opportunity for me and for the Binghamton program. They were really interested in me. The head coach recruited me from the first time he saw me,” said Richards, a 6’6″, 205-pound forward from Silver Spring, Md.

Binghamton is rebuilding after firing coach Mark Macon in April following a dismal 2-29 season in 2011-2012. Richards feels he will be a “good fit” in new coach Tommy Dempsey’s system.

Richards had one Division I scholarship offer out of high school, from Sacred Heart. He decided to spend the year at Fishburne as a postgrad to expand his options. He’s happy with where he is heading now – and with his decision to spend a postgrad year at Fishburne Military School.

“I don’t think I would have been able to be coached by a college coach this year. I wasn’t really ever coached the way Coach Huckaby is coaching me now,” Richards said. “He’s definitely a tough coach. He expects a lot. You’re just another player to him. You’re not a star player. Everybody’s equal. He doesn’t have any biases. So he’s definitely a tough coach, but it’s hepled me a lot.”
