Retired News Virginian sports editor Jim Gordon has passed away

jim gordonRetired News Virginian sports editor Jim Gordon, 78, passed away on Wednesday.

Gordon came to the NV in the 1960s and won nine Virginia Press Association awards and was once named Sports Editor of the Year by the Associated Press.

After retirement, he served as an usher at UVA basketball games, which he had covered as a sportswriter for more than three decades, and was also a member of the Waynesboro Choral Society.

The Gordon family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
