Real Men Wear Pink: Campaign encouraging action in the fight against breast cancer

Real Men Wear PinkMen in the Valley will unite to fight breast cancer with the American Cancer Society through participation in the Real Men Wear Pink of the Valley campaign. Throughout October, Real Men Wear Pink participants will encourage community members to take action in the fight against breast cancer.

“In addition to wearing pink and raising awareness about breast cancer, these men will be raising funds to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer from every angle and save more lives from breast cancer,” said Natalie Massing, Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society. “Funds raised help us save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research, and patient support.”

Each Real Men Wear Pink of the Valley participant accepts a fundraising challenge and will compete to be the top fundraiser among his peers by the end of the campaign.

“My Mom, Sandy passed away due to cancer almost five years ago,” said Owner & Principal Broker, Paul Riner of Riner Rentals.  “This was her goal:  to do all she could not to give cancer the last word, and she didn’t. She fought.  She’s the inspiration behind my personal Real Men Wear Pink of the Valley Campaign. Mom and the courageous folks who battle cancer, win or lose, with a love for life, and those around them, inspire me.”

Currently, 20 candidates have signed on to participate in the campaign and the American Cancer Society is still accepting additional “Real Men.” Candidates will be introduced at a Reveal Party on Thursday, September 13th at Valley Pike Farm Market and those participating will be wearing pink and fundraising throughout the month of October.

“Our community can make a huge impact in the breast cancer cause,” said Natalie Massing.  “We are grateful to our Real Men Wear Pink participants for lending their voices to this cause and fighting for everyone affected by breast cancer.”
