Proffit Road closed to through traffic Thursday

road work transportationRoute 649 (Proffit Road) in Albemarle County will be closed to through traffic Thursday while crews finish working on an emergency pipe replacement project near the Rivanna River bridge.

The road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Route 20 (Stony Point Road) and Quarles Road.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

Message boards are in place to notify motorists of the closure.

Updates and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. Local updates are also posted to Twitter.com/VaDOTCulp.

Note to emergency response personnel: Emergency vehicles can access Route 649 from Route 20 up to the Rivanna River bridge and via Route 29 up to Quarles Road. No residential entrances are blocked by this closure.
