Pre-K for a Day fundraiser

After SchoolThe Pre-K for a Day Fundraiser is back. For the second time, Smart Beginnings will be providing local community officials the opportunity to go back to preschool. During the month of April, community leaders will have the chance to spend time in a pre-school environment learning everything a child would normally learn in their classroom or daycare center. They will experience the education of a preschooler first-hand. These community leaders will be showing their support and commitment to bettering early childhood education in the Shenandoah Valley by brushing up on their ABCs and going back to the basics.

Current “students” in Smart Beginnings Pre-K for the day class include: Joe Funkhouser, President of Funkhouser Real Estate Group and Rector of the James Madison University Board of Visitors; Dr. Scott Kizner, Superintendent of Harrisonburg City Public Schools; Floyd Heater, President of Shenandoah Memorial Hospital; Dr. Michael Davis, JMU Debate Coach and Assistant Professor of Speech Communication; Brantley Somma, Territory Manager of Paychex; and Rebekah Ady and Katie Mercer from Family Youth Initiative.

Community leaders are counting on your investments towards early childhood education to help them enter kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed. By donating to a participant’s name you will help them “graduate” to kindergarten. The community leader with the top fundraising amount will be named “Valedictorian,” and runner up will be named “Salutatorian” at the Goodnight Gala in Harrisonburg on May 11th. If your business in interested in being a sponsor, please contact Alysia Davis at 540-568-8968. Please visit www.valleysmartbeginnings.org to learn more about the event, meet the participants, and donate to your favorite community leader.

Smart Beginnings Shenandoah Valley is an organization with a mission to help all children enter school healthy and prepared to succeed. By raising awareness, building collaborative partnerships and harnessing resources, Smart Beginnings works to create ready children prepared for success.
