Portions of two Augusta County roads to be closed Monday for bridge replacements

Parts of two roads in Augusta County are scheduled to be closed beginning Monday, May 9, while crews replace bridges in both locations. Motorists will be directed to follow posted detour routes while the work takes place.

Route 685 (Lehigh Road) will be closed between Route 42 (Craig Street) and Route 684 (Little River Road) near Craigsville. This closure is expected to be in place for about seven months as contractors replace the single-lane bridge over Little Calfpasture River. The existing span was built in 1925 and is restricted to vehicles weighing no more than three tons. The new single-lane bridge will remove that restriction, and will have side railings to improve safety.

On March 29, 2016, the Virginia Department of Transportation awarded a $679,965.90 construction contract to Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville, Virginia. Route 732 (Roman Road) west of Mount Sidney is expected to close for about a week while Virginia Department of Transportation crews replace a small bridge with a concrete pipe. The work zone is between Route 753 (Liberty School Road) and Route 616 (Salem Church Road). Route 732 is scheduled to reopen on the afternoon of Friday, May 13.
