A multi-state pursuit involving a stolen car in Maryland spilled over into Virginia late last night and ended with a crash resulting in serious injuries.
At approximately 11:19 p.m. Monday night, Virginia State Police assisted Alexandria Police who were in pursuit of a suspected stolen vehicle.
Alexandria Police officers said the driver of the stolen Hyundai Elantra refused to stop and requested assistance from VSP.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle rammed a VSP vehicle, and the trooper crashed into a power pole bringing wires down onto the street.
The suspect vehicle continued and ran a red light at the intersection of Route 1 and Fort Hunt Road striking a Chevy pickup truck and a Toyota Corolla. The suspect vehicle then came to a rest before bursting into flames.
VSP troopers and a Fairfax County police officer pulled multiple suspects from the vehicle and began first aid.
One of Elantra occupants was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Additional occupants were taken by ambulance to hospitals with serious injuries.
The occupants of the Corolla were not injured. The driver of the Silverado was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
There is no information on the condition of the VSP officer involved in the crash; however, a VSP spokesperson said that the officer helped render aid at the crash scene, so it is unlikely they suffered major injuries.
A stolen firearm was also recovered from one of the occupants in the Elantra.
The investigation remains ongoing.
