Police investigating Serenity Garden theft

Chris Graham

The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating the theft of an ornamental bell from Serenity Garden in Ridgeview Park that occurred over the weekend.

The bell was removed from its mount on two 6×6 posts at the end of a brick walkway in the gardens sometime between 5 p.m. Friday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The bronze bell was inscribed with the words” The People’s Bell” on the front. The Serenity Garden logo and the year “2007” were inscribed on the back.

The bell is owned by the Serenity Garden Foundation and has significant sentimental value to the Waynesboro community, especially those who have been affected by cancer. The foundation is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person(s) responsible for this crime and the recovery of the bell through the Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers.

Callers to Crime Stoppers at 800.322.2017 may remain anonymous and could be eligible for an additional reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
