Pittsylvania County: No charges likely in fatal pedestrian crash Saturday

A Chatham man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle Saturday traveling north on Route 719 in Pittsylvania County.

Maurice Anton Briggs, 33, died Sunday at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

A Ford Expedition struck Briggs who was walking in the roadway, according to Virginia State Police.

The pedestrian vs. vehicle crash occurred at 9:35 p.m. on Route 719, two tenths of a mile south of Route 1004.

The driver of the Ford was not injured.

No charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation, according to VSP.
