Pelicans walk off Lynchburg Hilllcats in 12th

lynchburg hillcatsThe Lynchburg Hillcats saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 1-0, in 12 innings.

The Hillcats (49-54, 20-16) fall to just 2-8 in extra-inning contests, after dropping the second game of the series against Myrtle Beach (48-58, 14-22).

Tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 12th, the Pelicans scratched across the only run of the game. Aramis Ademan started the inning at second base, and scored on a walk-off single by Jared Young. Young accounted for three of the Pelicans five hits on the night.

The Hillcats had a runner at second base with nobody out in three consecutive innings and failed to score. They went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position, while the two teams combined for just eight hits over 12 innings on Saturday.

Tanner Tully started for Lynchburg, and fired 6.1 scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and struck out five. Jared Robinson worked 2.2 scoreless and struck out five, while Dalbert Siri held the Pelicans off the board in the 10th and 11th innings. Micah Miniard (Loss, 2-5) recorded one out in the 12th before giving up the walk-off hit to Young.

Bryan Hudson worked 6.2 scoreless innings for the Birds. He allowed just two hits and struck out four. Erick Leal tossed 3.1 scoreless innings and Ryan Kellogg (Win, 3-1) stranded the go-ahead run twice in two hitless innings.

The Hillcats and Pelicans will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday with the rubber match. Right-hander Eli Morgan (6-3, 2.98) will start for Lynchburg, while Myrtle Beach has not yet announced a starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
