WTA’s Gateway is proud to announce that Paul Reisler & A Thousand Questions will return to its stage for a performance on Saturday, June 8 at 8:00pm. The evening features original music by Paul Reisler, joined by harmonica and piano virtuoso Howard Levy (formerly of the Flecktones), singer/songwriters Amy Speace andHeather Mae, and percussionist Tom Teasley. The music for the concert is what The Washington Post reported “climbs up the Blue Ridge and down to the bayou and back up the Himalayas.”
“Paul Reisler and A Thousdand Questions are world-class entertainers. There is no way we could have afforded to bring them to the Gateway without the support of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and local supporters. This is a unique treat for our audiences at an unusually low admissions,” said Clair Myers, producer.
About the Performers
Paul Reisler is an internationally recognized musician and songwriter. The All Music Guide called his music “Pure Poetry.” Performing Songwriter Magazine noted his “world class musicianship.” He is also the founder and artistic director of Kid Pan Alley, a children’s songwriting project which inspires children to be creators of their own music.
Howard Levy ‘s music adventures include journeys into jazz, pop, rock, world music Latin, classical, folk, blues, country, theatre and film. He has appeared on hundreds of CDs, won a Grammy for his work with the Flecktones and is universally recognized as “the world’s most advanced diatonic harmonica player.” Levy is also an accomplished pianist and composer.
On October 1, 2010, Heather Mae took up the challenge to write a song a day for a year. That began a 365 day journey through more than 30 states and the writing of 7000 lyrics and collaborating with over 100 artists/musicians. Two years later she released One Year of Song, showcasing 10 of her songs from the 365-piece collection.
Amy Speace is a singer/songwriter and actress. Besides an active career in theatre, film and television, she tours the country performing solo and with her own band. After a performance at the SXSW Music Festival, Speace was signed by Judy Collins for her Wildflower label. Her debut CD, Songs for Bright Street, was praised by critics in both America and Europe and lead to an active touring schedule in Europe.
Tom Teasley maintains a unique career as a solo percussionist, composer and collaborator. He tours frequently throughout the world performing and presenting clinics. A three-time recipient of a Fulbright-Hayes grant for performances in the Middle East, He has been an artist-in-residence at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and has collaborated with the National Symphony as both a soloist and composer.
