Park Properties Management Company members receive CAMT designation at PVCC

Two members of the Park Properties Management Company maintenance team, Kenneth Schroeder and Kevin Fitzgerald, recently completed the Certificate for Apartment Maintenance Technician Credential Program at Piedmont Virginia Community College.

This CAMT Credential is a nationally recognized program developed and made available by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI) and is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In spring of 2018, NAAEI and the local NAA affiliate, the Virginia Apartment Management Association (VAMA), partnered with PVCC Workforce Services department to bring the course to the Greater Charlottesville area that took place Saturdays from March 10th – May 19th.

The PVCC Educational Foundation partnered with VAMA and the Piedmont Workforce Network to provide scholarship grants to eligible students as a reimbursement for education expenses.

This recognition will be the first resulting from the training offered through Park Properties Management Company’s apprenticeship program titled The Park Academy. After completing the CAMT eleven-week Saturday course schedule and required test, both Schroeder and Fitzgerald have achieved this honorable designation and reflect on their experience thus far as members of the Park Academy.

“I was excited and honored that the company felt that I was worth making such a big investment in,” Fitzgerald said. “I really enjoyed the hands-on experience.”

Schroeder also agrees that he was “happy to make the eleven-week sacrifice to learn some new things and refresh my understanding in other topics,” in addition to being utilized as the “teacher’s helpers by helping to show and demonstrate to the class while in the apartment workspace”.

Since completing the CAMT designation, both Fitzgerald and Schroeder feel that their Park Academy training has also helped their individual onsite experiences and with their peers. After receiving more detailed training, Fitzgerald mentions that he has been able to utilize this in his guidance with his onsite team to complete appliance repairs.

Schroeder also mentions that this refresher experience will be helpful while “walking other Park Properties maintenance team members through basic repairs even over phone.” This CAMT course has encouraged the way both of these Park Properties maintenance members feel about their role as Park Academy members, raving that is was “a great experience overall and can’t wait to take more classes!”
