Shifflett, Eric MichaelThe Waynesboro Police Department charged a city man with numerous charges when he nearly overdosed after ingesting a Fentanyl patch Monday evening. Eric Michael Shifflett, 24 years old, faces three felonies related to firearms and drug offenses.

On Monday at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers responded with the Waynesboro First Aid Crew to a residence in the 200 block of North Bayard Avenue for a suspected overdose.  When officers and rescue personnel arrived, the homeowner told them that Shifflett, who is a family member, had locked himself in a bathroom and was not responding.  Officers kicked the door open and found Shifflett in an altered state and incoherent.  They also found a semi-automatic handgun, loaded magazine, and razor blades.

As rescue personnel treated Shifflett, they noticed he appeared to be chewing something that he then swallowed.  Officers found Fentanyl patch wrapper in Shifflett’s pocket.  WFAC transported Shifflett to Augusta Health Emergency Department.  He was later transported to a hospital in Roanoke.

Officers obtained the following charges on Shifflett:

  • Possession of a Schedule I or II Drug
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm while in Possession of a Schedule I or II Drug

After Shifflett was discharged from the hospital, he was arrested by the Roanoke Police Department.  He is being held without bond a Middle River Regional Jail.
