Nolan Reimold and Steve Clevenger hit grand slams to fuel a 10-run Baltimore eighth, and the Orioles held on for a 14-8 win over the Kansas City Royals Friday night in Camden Yards.
Kansas City took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the eighth after a Salvador Perez RBI single gave the Royals what seemed to be an insurance run.
The Reimold slam gave the O’s an 8-6 lead. Manny Machado hit a solo homer to make it 9-6, and a Steve Pearce RBI double pushed the lead to 10-6.
The Clevenger blast extended the margin to 14-6 to cap the double-digit offensive frame.
The rally made a winner of Orioles reliever Mychal Givens (2-0, 2.25 ERA).
The win was the third in a row for Baltimore (68-72), who are, quietly, six games out of the second wild-card spot in the American League.
