Virginia State Police: One dead, two seriously injured in Amherst County car accident

A Madison Heights man is dead from injuries in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dixie Airport Road and South Amherst Highway in Amherst County.

Harlan M. Barr, 88, of Madison Heights, was transported to an area hospital after the 12:19 p.m. Friday crash.

He succumbed to his injuries the following day, according to Virginia State Police.

Barr was driving a 2008 Ford Escape and attempting to make a left turn from Dixie Airport Road onto southbound South Amherst Highway when the vehicle was struck by a 2009 Nissan Murano heading northbound.

A passenger in the vehicle, Geneva Barr, 88, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the Murano, Nancy I. Lewis, 77, of Madison Heights, also suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
