Update: Tuesday, 11:45 a.m. A second man has died as a result of injuries sustained in an accident involving a truck and a train on Monday in Staunton.
Homer Moats, 53, of Staunton, died overnight at the UVA Medical Center.
The Staunton Police investigation revealed that the Dodge pickup truck was driving south on a private driveway off the 500 block of Buttermilk Spring Road and failed to stop for a stop sign at the private train crossing.
The Buckingham Branch train was traveling east at the time of the collision.
Original story: Monday, 7:35 p.m. One person is dead as a result of injuries sustained in accident involving a truck and a train on Monday in Staunton.
The accident was reported at approximately 2:18 p.m. in the 500 block of Buttermilk Spring Road. A Dodge pickup truck and a Buckingham Branch train collided at a private railroad crossing.
Two males were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Eugene Williams, 46, of Staunton, died at the scene. Homer Moats, 53, of Staunton, was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
The investigation into the crash continues.
