Chris Graham

augusta countyUpdate: 3:12 p.m. The driver in the Augusta County accident has been identified as Reese F. Leigh, 25, of Elkton, Va.

Original post: 11:36 a.m. Virginia State Police responded to an overturned vehicle Friday in the 4400 block of Eastside Highway (Route 340) in Augusta County. Trooper T.L. Johnson was notified of the crash at approximately 7:40 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 1999 Honda Civic was traveling south on Eastside Highway when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment and several trees then overturned where it came to rest on its roof in the embankment.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
