Chris Graham

augusta countyA Stuarts Draft woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Augusta County on Wednesday.

Rochelle A. Vaughn, 28, died at the scene of the accident on Route 919 in the Spottswood area reported at 6 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, Jonathan W. LaClair, 23, of Steeles Tavern, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

He has been charged with reckless driving.

According to Virginia State Police, the 2008 Scion being driven by LaClair was traveling north on Route 919 when it ran off the right side of the highway. LaClair overcorrected the vehicle, which caused it to cross over the road and run off the left side of the highway and strike a fence. It then overturned several times before coming to rest in a field.

Both LaClair and Vaughn were ejected from the vehicle. Neither one was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
