A suspect who fled on foot from police overnight was shot and killed by law enforcement after a high-speed pursuit which ended in Nottoway County.
The suspect has not been identified. Agents are working to identify them and notify next of kin.
A Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot in the hand in the incident and transported to a local hospital.
Road closures and detours are possible while an investigation is under way.
According to Virginia State Police, an Amelia County deputy attempted to stop a red Toyota Tacoma truck traveling more than 100 mph in a 55-mph zone on Route 360 at 5:03 a.m.
The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
A Virginia State Police trooper and multiple deputies from the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office later joined the pursuit.
When the truck reached the intersection of Rocky Hill Road, or Route 153, and eastbound Route 460, the truck driver lost control, and the truck stopped in the woods.
The driver fled on foot into the woods and was chased by deputies and the trooper. Shots were fired, and the suspect was killed.
No additional details have been provided.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Richmond field office is investigating the incident.
