Notebook: Inside #1 seed UVA win over Florida State in the ACC Tournament

storylogo2The dish: UVA point guard London Perrantes had just four points in the Cavs’ 58-44 win over Florida State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, but you’re remiss if you analyze Perrantes on the points scored stat line.

The 6’2” sophomore had nine assists in the win, against just three turnovers.

This is an area that I think the KenPom.com stats analysis underestimates the value of the assist. Perrantes was 2-of-5 from the field with nine assists, a 3:1 assists-to-turnover ratio, and his offensive efficiency rating per KenPom was just 89.

Wild stat: Virginia had 12 assists on its 19 made baskets. Perrantes had three-fourths of them.

Off-night from Brogdon: Malcolm Brogdon had zilch on the scoreboard until the final nine minutes, and he ended up with 10 points, six of them on free throws, two of those technical free throws.

His KenPom offensive efficiency was 100.

Blessing in disguise? The horrid officiating Thursday put Brogdon and Anthony Gill on the bench for long stretches in both halves.

In what could be a three-games-in-three-days run, maybe that could work to UVA’s advantage.

Gill played 26 minutes, and Brogdon got just 24.

The bench logged 62 minutes, technically. Justin Anderson, in his first game back since going down to injury on Feb. 7, got 12 minutes off the bench.
